A work about an empty space-a significant void that itself constitutes the memorial and about the desire to intervene as little as possible, allowing the space to speak for itself. A work about the invisible inscriptions and overlapping layers on the urban surface marked by history and global geopolitics. The control architectures that no longer exist are articulated in space through text. At the pavilion, the strange, abstract bands of writing transform into tangible history. Films, photographs and artefacts tell this history: brutal, insidious and inhuman.
Leer-Zeichen is also a work about vegetation—vegetation that articulates the memorial space between the two historic fire walls and allows the site to be experienced for all, in the increasingly hot urban climate.
